If I have my database on my portable drive that I take back and forth to work
so I can work on it each place until it's finished. Can I just drag it and
drop it on my desktop to work on it? I don't have any security set on it
yet. Is my database still 100% the same even if I drag and drop as long as I
haven't done any work in it? Also, the name of my database has spaces and a
'&' in the name. Can I change the name of it without it affecting my
database in any way? Can I just change the name from the desktop. Once I
put my database on the shared drive with security levels added, can I drag
and drop to my desktop to work on it and then put it back on the shared drive?

Hi there.
If I have my database on my portable drive that I take back and forth
to work so I can work on it each place until it's finished. Can I just
drag it and drop it on my desktop to work on it?

It doesn't matter where your file is as long as you only work on one at a
time and always overwrite the old one with the new.
I don't have any
security set on it yet. Is my database still 100% the same even if I

Yes.

Also, the name
of my database has spaces and a '&' in the name. Can I change the name
of it without it affecting my database in any way? Can I just change
the name from the desktop.

You can call it whatever you like but personally I would avoid characters
such as &, # and % and spaces too.
Once I put my database on the shared drive
with security levels added, can I drag and drop to my desktop to work
on it and then put it back on the shared drive?

Before you embark upon user-level security you need to read and understand
the MS FAQ:

faq.asp>

Always work on backed-up files since it's so easy to lock yourself out.
There's also a step-by-step example on my web site.

Good luck.
Keith.
