security issues with IE6.0

I cannot access any secured sites using IE 6.0. I get
page cannot be displayed.

I am running MS XP on a laptop and have double and triple
checked the security settings. Still, cannot access any
secured sites. Help.... I can't buy anything on line and
the holidays are fiercely approaching. Is it the HP
Laptop, my cable modem or what. I am using Netscape in
the meantime.

Please help
