security in FrontPage

I have "inherited" a web page project at work. I have made changes a website
that was set up years ago by an employee who no longer works with my company.
I am now attempting to publish my changes. When I do this get a prompt for
a username and password. Same prompt when I try to access live. I have
spoke with my web host and I am confident the id and password I have from
them are correct. I think that this password is one that was set up by the
former administrator and is only on the frontpage files. How do I reset or
clear this security password?

If you can't publish changes or access your live site, the username/password
you're using isn't correct. Reconfirm with your host.

If you have a password protected folder within your site that you're being
prompted for a username/password, either ask the original individual
(probably impossible) or, if you know it won't "break" the site, delete that
folder. Having password protected folders within a site doesn't prevent you
from publishing changes or accessing a live site. They're two different
animals.

Dan-
when I try to access the site live via File/Open Web/Folder: http://___ I
receive this error message:

ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD
Please enter your authentification information
Resource: http://________

UserName (this does not look like a ftp prompt)
Password

I am not convinced that this is a hosting problem.
Sorry that I can't be more specific..I am not very familiar with web
publishing of Front Page (mostly graphic design)

This almost worked. I didn't receive the Network Password Error, but...
I received a different password prompt (ftp I think), and once I entered my
password it gave me the error that "the Server Extensions do not support this
action on FTP servers"

This makes sense since I should have front page extensions enabled.

I called my web host again and they told me that since they change my
password on thier end recently, I need to change my Frontpage password to
match it. They told me to go through the tools menu in Frontoage.

The problem is that the "security" link in Tools is greyed out. So how am I
to log in to get there?

Use File Menu | Open Site and then enter the URL and your new login info

When I do this the ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD box just continues to pop up until
finally I receive an error message that I do not have access.

My host seems to think that I may not be logged into frontpage as the
administrator, therefor it wont let me gain access. As I said in the first
post, I was not the initial creater of the site, could that person have set
us a passwordk within FP that I need to change?

My host believes that this has something to do with the old administrator
setting up some sort of permissions. Is there a way for me to login as the
administrator? Hoe does it know I am not ? I am not convinced that this is a
hosting problem.

No, the password prompt is generate by the live/remote server, if that is the server you are trying
to access via File Menu | Open Web / Site or when using File Menu | Publish Web / Site commands.
