Ken

I have several security groups that have been created by several different
people over the years and would like to find out where they are used such as
on a Share or in an application. Is this possible? Would really like to
clean up some groups or put them to better use.

Thanks.

You could start by looking at the membership of the groups to see if it
provides any clues on what to check. Then there are a couple of free third
party tools - dumpsec from SomarSoft and ShareEnum from Sysinternals that
can help you check your network for permissions. Dumpsec can dump share and
ntfs permissions for a computer and ShareEnum can scan your network for
shares and show you the permissions for them. There is no easy way that I
know of, but maybe those tools can give you a start. Those two links below
may also have other software - many free and some not that you may find
helpful.--- Steve
