Hi Jerry, which update did you download?, and which
operating system are you using? If you installed Update
#821557, then you are not alone. Microsoft really screwed
up (a whole lot more than they usually do) with this
update. It is messing up systems all over the world.
Solution #1 If you have "System Restore" on your
system, (look in the start/program files menu if you are
not sure) then click on "System Restore". Of the 3
choices, click "Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time",
then click "Next". On the next screen you will see a
calender. Click on the the bold dates until you find the
Windows Update that is causing the problem. Then click on
the bold date previous to that date and click "Next".
Read the instructions and warnings on this page and if
you wish to continue, click "Next" to restore to the date
you selected. Anything that you installed from the
restore point till now will be removed as well.
Solution #2 Go to Add/Remove Programs. (Located in the
control panel). Look for the Windows Hotfix-821557, (or
whatever the update number is that is causing the problem
for you) highlight it, and click remove. I have always
used "System Restore" myself, but this should work as
well.
