Presently preparing to VPN into my Vista Ultimate desktop. Firewall is on
and virus/internet software is in place. There is a requirement of
'bridging" the DSL modem to configure access from the outside. I write to
inquire if the bridging configuration exposes the machine to greater risk of
intrusion/malicious intent? Are there any additional configurations/settings
in the operating system that will maximize security? Much thanks for your
attention as I await your reply.

Hi
The best security can be achieved by using a Cable/DSL Router even if you
have only one computer.
The Router's NAT Firewall provides very high security against Hacking your
system from the Internet.

In addition using Vista native Firewall, Windows Defender, and adding an
Antivirus application to each computer is as secured as you can be.
