Security Center Service won't start

Hey All,

The subject says it all. I disabled the SCS as soon as I installed Vista
because, quite frankly, I find it annoying. However, in trying to fix
another program (see my thread in Networking), I tried to restart the service
and it says "This service cannot be started." It's no more helpful than that.

Anyone have a clue?

Once you disable security center you put your system into an untested and
unsupported configuration. In fact, you have to hack the OS to even do it.
Frankly, it is not to be expected that you can recover from that short of
reinstalling the OS.

What does the system event log have to say about it? There should be error
messages from the service control manager in there.
Anyone have a clue?

Yes, many of us do.

I experience a similar problem, unable to start the security center service.
I have Norton Internet Security 2007 installed, and have disabled some
services in services.msc. But I haven't done any kind of hax to the programs,
don't know how.

Are there other services that this service relies on? Does NIS 2007 disable
it?

You have a completely different situation than the OP. Yes, NIS does
take over the Security Center's functions and disables the Windows
Security Center. When you installed NIS, you chose that option. This is
fine; just leave things alone now.
