Security Center isn't functioning correctly

Hello,

Recently while running Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1, the
Security Center reported the antivirus as "Not Found". I uninstalled the
antivirus and re-installed but it didn't help. I did a few tests with live
viruses and Symantec caught them instantly. I then uninstalled Symantec and
installed BitDefender 9 Pro, but the Security Center is still reporting the
antivirus as "Not Found".

It appears the interface to the Security Center is damaged or some kind of
file/registry flag is bugged. Does anyone know how to reset the Security
Center's settings or fix this issue?

Many Thanks,

Grant

I am having same problem, I am "locked out" of the security center. I have
run all the tests, including the Microsoft Live Beta test. I have something
called "backdoor.haxdoor.cn and cannot seem to get it removed. Really need
some help here.

Deb,

Check out this forum:

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/TrojanPdPinch_and_Backdoorhaxdoorcn_etc-t28831.html

Also Googling the phrase "backdoor.haxdoor.cn" (with quotes) will provide
you with numerous pages describing fixes.

As for my problem and the original topic of this thread, are there any
answers on how to fix the WMI interface for the Security Center? This isn't
a topic easily answered by Google, so I'm not sure if anyone here can provide
a solution... MVP's? Guru's? Help!

HI, I' GINNY AND HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE SECURITY CENTER. IT
SEEMS THAT THE SECURITY CENTER CAN RECOGNISE MY TREND MICRO FIREWALL, BUT
SAYS THAT IT COULD NOT FIND ANY ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM INSTALLED. I ALSO TRIED
RE-INSTALLING BUT THIS DID NOT WORK. I SENT A MESSAGE TO TREND WHO
SUGGESTED:_ ' This could be a corrupted security Center If PC-cillin is
working the issue is a Microsoft related Issue To test PC-cillin you can try
clicking on the following link http://eicar.com/download/eicar.com This
should try to download a Test Virus and you should get a Virus Warning If
this worked the issue is with the Microsoft Security Center and you would
need to contact Microsoft (you can try disable and re-enable it)'. THIS
SHOWED THAT TREND WAS WORKING. I AM NOW TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW TO
DIABLE/RE-ENABLE MSC TO TRY THAT.

hi again. hopefully good news for you. although my computer knowledge is
limited I think this simple solution has worked. I couldn't find hoe to
diable the security center, but had the idea of re- enstalling the windows
SP2 as the security center originated from that. the annoying red shield has
now gone and the security centre now recognises my security software. it
worked for me . hope it works for you

Well IT Professionals, it took awhile but I found a solution to my problem.
Basically I cleared out the WMI repository and reinstalled the WMI service.
To follow the same procedure:

1) START > RUN > CMD > OK > Enter the command: net stop winmgmt
2) Delete %windir&\system32\wbem\repository
3) START > RUN > CMD > OK > Enter the follow commands in sequence:

winmgmt/clearadap
winmgmt/kill
winmgmt/unregserver
winmgmt/regserver
winmgmt/resyncperf

4) Reboot your system to restart all the associated WMI services.

Cheers,

Grant
