Security Alert --> Cannot Download Anything

Whenever I try to download any type of file, from any site, the prompt box
pops up and ask whether I'd like to open the file, or save it to disk.
Regardless of what button I click, immediately after an error message pops up
saying "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be
downloaded." I have tried changing everything from restricted sites to, of
course, all options in the security settings to no avail. Also, when I try
and move my security settings below medium, I get another error message
saying "The recommended security level for this zone is "Medium". "The level
that you have chosen is lower than this. Please choose a security level of
"Medium" or higher." This happens with any type of file from all sites,
whether they be email or just some random site.

Hi davidjs :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using so I can only guess
at a suggestion. Try the following and see if it helps:

Disable the Script Debugger in IE (Line 142) - Win XP
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If you have McAfee:

Disable the McAfee ActiveX controls Applet filters in the Internet Filter
window when you select Customize your VShield settings

"Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this
page. As a result pages may not display correctly."

or

How can I turn off the "security alert" dialog boxes that appear when I
access a secure Web site using Internet Explorer

If you have installed any 3rd party toolbars such as Google or Yahoo, or
Yahoo companion, ad or popup blockers, disable them.

Hi. I am running Windows XP, SP2, and I'm not running McCafee, just Norton,
though it is disabled. Funny you mention that script debugger tip at
kellys-corner.com, because in order to access it, you have to download
something, which of course, I cannot. Also, it doesn't just happen with FTP
downloads, but with all. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have access to another PC? I mentioned the script at Kelly's as it
just may be the answer to your problem. If you have access to another PC,
download it to a floppy then copy it to your hard drive and run it.

Hope this helps.
