When MSAS is shutdown from the systray, the next time it is started,
Security Agents Status is disabled. Just because I needed to shut it down at
some point doesn't mean that the Security Agents are not needed when it is
next run. Is there going to be a fix for this?

At the moment, the fix for this is an update install (really, a repair.)

Start, control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware. Change,
Update..

I had updated MSAS a few days ago to the new version, but I followed your
suggestion anyway. This still did not fix the problem; any other ideas?

Try this fix--I think I misinterpreted your symptom:
----------------------------------------
Registering a VB6 dll seems to fix missing agents:
1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without
the quotes).
3) Close and re-open Windows AntiSpyware
4) If that fails, install VB6 runtime files:

I registered the VB6 dll, but this did not fix my problem. My agents aren't
missing. I guess that my explanation of my problem wasn't clear. So I'm
going to reword it.

I right-click on the MSAS icon in the systray and select "Shutdown Microsoft
AntiSpyware"
I reboot my computer.
I right-click on the MSAS icon in the systray and see "Security Agents
Status (Disabled)"
I mouse-over "Security Agents Status (Disabled)" and then click on "Enable
Real-time Protection"
I right-click on the MSAS icon in the systray and see "Security Agents
Status (Enabled)"

If I shut down MSAS, I would think that when MSAS starts up again the
Security Agents Status would be enabled by default.

Thank you,

Joshua Cohen

Sorry for the delay. If the repair install didn't fix this, I think I would
advise:

Uninstall Microsoft Antispyware.

Delete the installation folder (typically c:\program files\microsoft
antispyware) and all subfolders. (you will lose access to any quarantined
items, and lose custom settings and preferences.)

Reinstall Microsoft Antispyware.
