security account passwords

Yesterday I attempted to create a security account
password for a database application I created using
Access 2002.

Either I typed it incorrectly or something is wrong with
Access as I can now no longer use theAccess aplication
with anything on my system.

The password is simply not accepted.

I have even gone so far as to uninstall Access, run
Norton System Utilities to clean up the Registry and then
re-installed Access.

But I still cannot get into the application even to
create a new database!

Short of buying a new computer, can anyone give me a
simple clue how to get over this problem (and perhaps an
explanation of what is going on)?

I really need help as I cannot access valuable and
irreplaceable data.

Thanks

Hi Denis,

Are you now being prompted for just a password, or a username/password?

Buying a new computer will not be required! :-)

Hi Joan,

I'm glad I can save some money!!

The dialog box is titled "Log on" and it asks for "Name
(mine is there by default) and "Password" (which is
blank).

It's nice to know ther eis help out there.

Thanks,
Denis

OK. When you set up the 'security account password' what exactly did you
do?

1. Create a new user (what name did you create), and type in a PID?
or
2. Assign a password to the Admin user (you must have done at least this to
get the login prompt).

A couple of things to know. Just because the dialog pops up with the Name
filled in, doesn't mean you can't change it. Enter the name of the user you
created (if you did so in 1). Secondly, you may be confusing the PID you
entered as a password. It isn't. Passwords for new users are initially
blank. Try logging in with an empty password. Failing that, you should be
able to log in as user 'Admin', and the password you created for that
username.

Finally, before you go too far with Access security, you need to download
and study the security FAQ from
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=207793

It can take a while to understand it, and get it right.

Thanks Joan,

All I had to do was change the default name to Admin and
it worked.

So simple, but so hard to find!!!

Thanks again,
Denis
