I have a computer running Windows 2000 Pro. I just
received a new computer with Windows 2000 Pro. I want to
be able to move my SAM from the old machine to the new
machine so I dont have to add everyone on my old machine
to my new machine along with all the permissions. Is
there a way to do this by copying the SAM from the old
machine to the new machine?

You might try using the addusers tool to migrate user from one computer to
another. Passwords will not be copied and user will have a blank password and be
required to change password at logon. The links below describes it a bit and
even though it talks about domains it can be used to migrate users between
computers. To copy folders with ntfs permissions use Xcopy with the /o switch
[will not copy inherited permissions] using network connection or slaving old
hard drive in new computer. I would suggest you backup both computers first if
possible. Norton Ghost excels at backups for and comes with SystemWorks and
such, and can be purchased at places like NewEgg for around $25. --- Steve
