Keep your system and applications patched and practice safe computing and
you will probably be as safe as you can be.
 
If the space between the ears was not sufficiently updated during one's
academic career there are remedial courses available.

Unfortunately my ears are of the USB1.0 variety so it takes a good while.
... but to foul things up completely takes a computer.
