Hi everyone. Marry Christmass and Happy New Year!.

I've got one little problem. Anyone knows how
to secure shared directories with password in Windows XP Home in the intranet?.
Are there any programs (can be third party) which would
make it possible?. I'm not talking about hiding files which
can be seen again after choosing 'Show hidden files' in
Configuration/Display of Windows Commander. (I have such program)
I'm talking about secure (only people in the intranet, that know password can
access directory) access barring of the directory.

Thanks for help

XP does not support network passwords for shares in the manner that
W9x does. One simple work-around is to assign a "hidden" sharename,
like SECRET$, and only tell your friends about the SECRET$. The
trailing $ means the sharename will not be seen on the net.

HI Bob

I wrote on WindowsXP forum about securing files with password in the
intranet in XPHome.
You wrote back that I can use hidden sharename using trailing$. Could
you, please
explain it a little closer. How can I do it?. (Step-by-step would be
best).
If such share is hidden how can user on another computer see that
share?.
For example, if I set up such hidden share on WindowsXP how user on
Windows2000 can
get to such share?.

Thanks for help.
