if you make an updateable recordset "read only" the form
will be blank. change the enabled alocked properties to
restrict a user
 
You've lost me slightly
Am I to make the property changes in the subforms
Will these restrictions also affect other groups who have edit etc permissions

Your further elaboration would be appreciated
