Secure POP3

Hi

I have a W2k box I am running at home that I am hosting a domain for a friend. This domain is besides the domain for my box. I have gone into the receipients policy and added the domain to the list but did not apply it to every one becuase it only applies to one user. I have created the user in AD and all is fine

Now, I want to make the connection to my box as secure as possible when my friend fires up Outlook to download his email from me. I go into the properties of the POP3 services and under authentication I deselect the basic authentication and leave the INtegarted Windows Authentication checked. I test the account out by using Outlook on another 2000 Prof. box and add the internet email account under services. I then check the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" and restart Outlook

Even though I sent an email to the account on the 2000 server box Outlook does not download it. I have to go back and check on basic authentication under the POP3 service, restart it, and then go to Outlook and de-select the "Secure Password Authentication.

I know I am missing something here but what? What I want is to have the most secure way for my friend to contact my box and download his email. I don't want to provide a back door through the POP3 account for a cracker to get it. Any help is appreciated

thanks
