Hey guys,

I'm a computer user with average sort of knowledge. I recently bought and external hard disk to use with my laptop.
I heard that there are some things you should do initially such as breaking it up into sections or separating it up. Is this true? If so how would i do this?
Lastly is there anything else I should do with a new external drive before using it?

Thanks in advance

Nope, my personal opinion, no need to "partition" the drive ... just use folders. :thumb:

Can you tell us what you have bought, but haven't got yet ? ;)

I'm with Mucks on this one, no point in splitting it up at all as it may even hinder what you can do once one partition runs out of space. A new folder for each type of thing you will store is quite adequate :)

thanks for the advice guys. im more of a point and click kinda guy so i'd prefer just to stick it all in folders.

the drive which i picked up on the cheap a while ago and forgot about until my hardrive filled up is...

atmt 300gb hd (hd360U-P) (think its a western digital in disguise)

probably no great but dirt cheap for a file dumping ground

cheers
