I have 80+ slides divided into several sections, each
having a section title. Whenever I CHANGE a section
title, I have to copy delete and paste new title to each
slide of that section. Is there a smarter way to apply
change to a section. It obviously cannot be done on slide
master since it will apply to ALL slides. Thank you.

Natalie,

I know you are probably not using PPT XP-2003, but this is a good example of
why to upgrade. They permit multiple masters, so you can create a master for
each section, and in this case add a text box to the master with the section
title so it shows up on each slide in that section.

Using any version of PPT I know you can get very creative with VBA to have
it automatically update the title text on specified slide ranges.

Why not just go EDIT -> Replace and enter your exact "old" text and the
exact "new" text. Click match case (and use proper uppercase and lowercase)
to ensure there will be no mistakes.

Hope this helps you!

Thanks for the recommendation. You know if XP-2003
version allows custom layouts? Sorry, I'm not expert w/
PPT, what does VBA mean? I'd like to explore that.
You know if MS provides free trial upgrade?

Though it wasn't written to do this, I'd bet our PPTMerge addin would solve
the problem.

You could create your master presentation with the section titles entered as
merge fields instead of literal text then merge the actual text into the
presentation from a spreadsheet or data file. Edit the spreadsheet, do a
merge and it updates your whole presentation.

For that matter, you could probably pull something similar off using PPT's
search and replace, thus:

Wherever you'd normally have a section title, plug in some unique text, for
example: SectionTitle_1, SectionTitle_2 and so on.
That's your "master" presentation. Do all your edits to this one. Then
when you're ready to use the presentation, spin off a "presentation" version
of the file - do a search and replace, replacing "SectionTitle_1" with the
actual section title text. Repeat for each add'l section titles.

Natalie,

What I do is when I want the same title on several slides, I go into Slide
Sorter View, click the desired slide with the title I want duplicated, then
press CTRL-D several times to get the slides I want. Quick and very easy!
make sure the slide you want duplicated is a blank slide with just the title
so everything else doesn't get duplicated as well.

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the capability of creating/adding custom
placeholders to the slide master and/or creating/adding customer slide
layouts which would take advantage of such custom placeholders. With
multiple master feature in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 you can create a
variety of almost identical slide masters with different behaviors
(animations) and placement and formatting of title and object areas for
AutoLayouts so that when used in conjunction with the existing autolayouts
you can get some additional flexibility. When that is still insufficient
you can also create slides that are laid out and formatted the way you want
and then you can use the Duplicate Slide command (or just copy/paste) to
make a new copy of the slide each time you need to create a slide that uses
the same layout/formatting.

Of course, if you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
some kind feature for creating custom placeholders and/or slide layouts
should be a built-in feature in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your
feedback to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
