Secretmaker...anyone try it?

Looks interesting and apparently does a lot. I would be curious to hear from
people who have tried it.

Who should use our freeware software package?

All-in-One SECRETMAKER is designed for users who wish to:

? Keep their email box free of spam
? Avoid irritating pop-up and banner interruptions
? Protect their privacy and avoids profiling
? Use the Internet efficiently for private or business use

the site looks very dodgy to me - couldn't easily see a license, and
the about page is all about how to invest in the company.

I may be wrong, and this may be the wrong phrase to use in acf , but
:-)

caveat emptor :-)

Good programmers are not necessarily good web designers!

I was commenting on the content, rather than design.

that's why I said " the site looks very dodgy to me - couldn't easily

I did not criticise it's use of frames, colour schemes or whatever -
just the lack of an obvious licence.

Is that better ?

Again I was wondering if anyone actually tried the software?! I am not
interested in wether or not they have a good web site or the license is easy
to find. It says Freeware all over the site. It looks like an interesting
package and I was curious to know if anyone had tried it and what they
thought of it.

This might be easy to fake, but you might want to look at the CNET
user reviews for the program:

I don't often visit Cnet myself anymore now. Yet, I remember
whenever I read the reviews, I tended to choose the negative
review to read so that I would have a picture of how bad a
program could potientially get - You know, if it is good, you
don't really *have to* know about it if you have already
decided to give it a try, but if it is bad, you'd better know
what is coming and what it could do to your box.

While the good reviews sound pretty good, I read the few
negative reviews on that download page for Secretmaker (but of
course, it may totally unreliable)
My conclusion is that if I am going to try it I will make sure
I install it with TotalUninstal
(http://www.geocities.com/ggmartau/)
or BB Testrun (http://dogkennels.gq.nu/testrun/) just in case,
as it sounds like it could cause some bad things in certain
systems and perhaps (really ONLY perhaps has spyware, but I am
not sure). It is always a good idea to monitor the
installation process for something you are not entirely sure
about.

BTW, some negative reviews report blue screencrash with XP, I
am thinking to myself that "this can't be good", because I
have been using XP for a while and never once seen a blue
screen. Whatever causing it with that program, it could be a
pretty big stability issue that a program needs to deal with -
just my 2cents.

Finally, the screenshot looks pretty nice and I'd really
consider trying it out if I hadn't switched to Firefox and
have a really good spam filter myself: I use K9 + Hamster +
Pimmy, 99.99999999999999999 spam free :-)
