After upgrading from XP home to XP pro (w/SP1), the
secondary IDE is not recognized by the bios. I have an
Intel Billings D845EBG2 mobo with 256Mb ram. There are 2
CDRW (config'd as master & slave) connected to the 2ndry
IDE.

Any known issues/resolutions ?

Thanks in advance !

Hi,

This board certainly does support XP Pro correctly - I've installed it on
the BG2 motherboard many times.
Check the BIOS settings first (F2 at boot, then to the Advanced page of the
BIOS -> IDE Settings) to ensure that the second channel hasn't become
disabled, and that both the CD drives are seen by the BIOS.

Do you get anything in the Device Manager in Windows? e.g does the Secondary
IDE Controller show up not at all, or with a yellow (!) on it?

It's possible that some CD writing software you had under XP Home has failed
to work when upgraded to XP Pro - I believe some versions of Adaptec EasyCD,
for example, caused problems with CD drives not working in Device Manager.
If so, try uninstalling and re-installing any third party CD software you
were using.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Dave. It's good to go !

Device Manager had not been displaying any information
re: 2ndry IDE. Likewise, in the bios, the 2ndry
selections were 'ghosted'. I had been entering the bios
by typing the del key or f10.

However, when I entered the bios via f2 (per your
instructions) the 2ndry ide information was enabled and
recognizing the CD-RW installed on it. Device Mgr. now
shows the correct info, and drives are functional.

Thanks again....
