I have a system with a 80 gig WD drive as primary on IDE 1 and a
Maxtor 80 gig as secondary, in windows it can see the D: drive but
when I try to access it I get a message asking me if I would like to
format the drive and so I am not able to access any of the files on
it, I did not have any previous problems wth it before so I would like
to knwo if anyone knows if their is a fix for this problem, I have
tried the powermax program to repair any possible problems and their
are no problems with the drive. If I use a windows me boot cd I can
then find the drive and access the files but then the files are on C:
drive and not on D: drive. I hope to be able to hear from people on
this problem and solve it.

Sometimes you will have problems when mixing different brands of hard drives
on the same IDE cable. However, it's more likely that your jumper settings
are wrong. WD hard drives have different jumper settings for ONLY hard
drive and MASTER hard drive. Check your WD drive to make sure it is
jumpered as master, and double-check the maxtor to make sure it is jumpered
as slave.

If the jumper settings are OK and it still doesn't work, move the maxtor to
IDE2 and set the jumper on it to MASTER. (don't forget to re-check the
jumper on the WD drive)

If you've already got an optical (DVD, CDR) drive on IDE2, that's OK. Just
set the jumper on the optical drive to slave. If the IDE cable on IDE2 is a
SINGLE drive cable, use that for the WD drive on IDE1. -Dave

Ok thanks for writing, I will try to change the maxtor drive around
some and see how it goes. hopefully it will work then as the jumpers
are set correctly for now.
