hello all. and thanks in advance to ANY help. i have a network with
several computers on one domain controller server. I have a second
server I have with 2000 server and have been researching and reading.
as i understand it, I can add this to my present "forest" and it can
work with the existing server with active directory to take some of the
load off of the primary server and replicate that server to this server
so that in the event of a loss on either server the other one is still
present and has everything and can stand in alone? am i missing
something here and wizard and such will replicate active directory but
i am confused with some of the settings and many google search phrases
seem to yeild confusing answers and theories. preferrably could anyone
suggest solutions or how to configure this, or ANY information to look,
path to take would be appreciated fully. I find this an oceann of
complexity so any beacon of direction no matter how small is greatly
appreciated. ii am ambitious and willing to work at this and read
plenty, however any direction would be helpful. I am not a compuyter
scientist by anymeans obviously, however I am eager to learn and want
to learn just want to learn right and continue to do so.

make sure both DCs have GC and DNS is running. this case study may help, DC Fault Tolerance

In the simplest case just running DCPROMO on the 'new' server will take care
of most of your concerns and needs. But as Robert suggests you may want to
add the Global Catalog, DNS and perhaps DHCP to the 'new' server as well to
provide more robustness to your domain.

Add the phrase:

site:microsoft.com

to the end of your Google searches to restrict results to Microsoft-only
sites and I'll bet some of your confusion will go away. ;-)
