Second IE window and Favorites

A Programmer

With the latest patches, IE6 SP1 with multiple windows will always
default to using the first window when a IE favorites item is clicked.

Known bug or is there any way to cure this?

See:
"How to add a "Open in new Window" option for Internet Shortcuts (.URLs)"?:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/urlopennew.htm
And: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=241911
"Description of the Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts Setting in
Internet Explorer 5.01".

This does not provide the result I am talking about or looking for. I
do not wish to spawn new windows when I click on bookmarks. I want to
have the window open and navigate to another site in that same window
using the favorites list. IE6 did this acceptably until 2 or 3
patches ago and then it started always taking over the first window
instead of using the window in which the favorites list was clicked.

Hi A Programmer :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following as it
applies to your OS and see if it helps.

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, MSN or Yahoo, disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it. If you have any 3rd party
software, popup or ad blockers, disable them. It is possible that a
BHO/browser add-on is involved. Uncheck any add-ons one at a time to see if
one of them may be the cause.

If still no joy, try the following free utilities:

TweakUI.

Try checking or disabling the 'Prevent Applications from Stealing Focus'

This free program has a "keep on top feature." PowerMenu 1.51:

I'm not sure that it will help, but you could experiment with it.

If this does not provide the results you want, then post back here with more
specific details explaining the exact results you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Hi A Programmer :-)

Oh right. I forget Microsoft diverged Internet Explorer 6 into two
different versions. This is on Windows Me.

Hi Programmer :-)

What are you using for your default email program?
