Second Hard drive problems

I Have a second Hard drive on my machine with WinXP Pro
newly installed. Windows can see the drive (F) and I have
tried formatting it several ways but I keep getting a
message saying Windows was unable to complete the
formatting.

It will go for about 20 minutes for a 30gb Maxtor drive,
once it gets to 100% is when I get that message.

I appreciate any help.

Hi Wayne!
I had the same problem on XP Home with an external Maxtor HD.
I downloaded and installed MaxBlast 3 For Windows from
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/files/maxblast3win.exe
This utility was able to partition and format my HD completely without
any problem where XP had failed.
