Hi,

I have an existing Windows 2000 Domain with one DC
and I will like to add a second DC and have it replicate
the DNS settings for the Domain. How do I do this?
Also is it possible to have third DNS server as a member
server?

Thank you,

Richard

Are you using AD Integrated DNS or Primary\Secondary zones?
If you have AD integrated, AD replication will handle DNS zone replication
as well although you will still need to configure settings such as
forwarders etc. To have a DNS server on a member server in this scenario,
your only option would be to install a standard secondary zone.

If you use Primary\Secondary zones, all subsequent DNS servers have to be
secondary zones. When you set it up, it will pull all records over from the
primary server automatically.

Thank you for the reply.

I am using AD integrated DNS. Does that mean that when a
bring a second DC online the DNS will replicate to this
controller automatically without any need to setup any
thing manually.

Thanks again,

Richard

The DNS records will replicate automatically as part of normal AD
replication. All you need to do is add an AD Integrated zone of the same
name and records will automatically be plucked from AD. You will still have
to set forwarders etc. manually as these are per-server settings. The whole
thing is a really easy process so you shouldn't have much trouble.

Many Thanks!

Richard
