I'm trying to provide my wife with a solution and not having any luck.
her employer is running win 2k sp4 server and wkstations.
and Office 97. All Word 97 docs are stored on the server in several folders.
there is then one folder that contains shortcuts to all the aforementioned
Word docs.
she tells me that if she is in one of the document folders she can do a
search for a word or phrase and the search will return appropriate results.
she tells me that if she does this from the folder containing the shortcuts
the search will return no results.
She uses Windows Explorer to browse to the folder with shortcuts and
right-clicks the folder and selects search and under text search enters a
word known to be in the file(s) that the shortcut(s) point to.
She tells me that when they had NT 4 her and her team co-workers searched
their files thru the
shortcuts on keywords with no problem. That apparently this is a Win2k
issue.
I found a pc at work that is running Win2000 and Office 2000. On this box I
was able to reproduce the issue. I could not search thru shortcuts either
locally or networked. I tried it with Windows indexing on and off.
On my WinXP boxes I do not have this issue. With XP and various versions of
Office I can search thru shortcuts very effectively.
Anybody able to confirm that this ability was "dropped" in NT 5 (Win2k),
from NT 4 and brought
back in NT 5.1 (WinXP) ?
Or that it's possibly a service pack issue?
Or some setting issue?
