For the past few days I have been unable to do any web
searching using IE Search. When I click on the search the
window opens but when I type in my search and click search
I get the Cannot Find. I even checked into that QHost
Trojan and ran tool just in case but still cannot search.
Help lost without this main function.

Me and my husband are having the same issue on our
systems. Ive run virus scans, spoken to tech support for
my isp, reinstalled IE6 with SP1, updated our windows xp,
got rid of all ad ware gone through security settings and
cannot find a way to fix it

I can specifically type in a url and the page will load,
but no search engines are working. So obviously not a dns
problem, sigh

Lee,
Trojan Qhosts hijacks the HOSTS file, however unlike normal redirectors,
this one hides the HOSTS file in the "Windows\Help" folder. It then
creates entries that redirects *all* major search engines to a website.
Note: this website has now been removed, thus the DNS errors.

Microsoft has released a cumulative patch for this vulnerability:
Simply go to Windows Update [hotfix 828750]

If your AV did not detect or you simply don't have an AV (bad idea)

Mike thanks so much, I have Norton's System Works no
Trojan detected - ran fix just in case and found nothing.
I am a novice at computers so much of this is very
confusing to me. I am 100% updated on critical Microsoft
Updates - Ran Ad Aware to dump spyware. I just don't know
what I should do to be able to search again. The search
engine will come up in th window but when I try to search
it does nothing. So confused here I am reading all of the
posts similiar but still not helping me. I just went to
the page you said to and did what they said but when I
tried to save the file the site was not available. Maybe
I just need to call Microsoft. Thx Lee

Lee,
You tried to save what file?
From my Hosts page, run the beta version of HijackThis,
and post your log file to their Forum, all the needed info\links are there.
