Searching on a highlighted word or phrase

I recently switched computers.
On the last computer, there was a feature that allowed me to highlight
a word or phrase that appeared on a web page, then right click on it,
and I would have the option to do a google search on that word or
phrase. I have no idea whether this feature is something that Google
offers or Windows offers.
For some reason the feature has disappeared on the new computer.
I really liked that feature and I'm wondering whether there's a way to
get it back. But I don't want to get it AND have to get a whole bunch
of OTHER features I may not want at the same time in some bundle of
features which may lead to a whole bunch of buttons and what not
cluttering up my task bar.
Any idea how I can get that feature?
I thank you in advance for your attention to my query!

Install whatever plugin for whatever browser that you allowed you to do that
on your new computer...

Maybe Google Toolbar?

Look on your old computer (if you still have it) and figure out what was
installed.

I though IE8 does it without google toolbar (just set google as default
search provider) or you could try google chrome; that doe sit too.

What has IE8 Beta got to do with it?
The OP made no mention of that.

I sure hope you are using Firefox. If you are still using IE, you
best stop reading and give up.

Firefox has several add-ons you can download and one is called the
Menu Editor. Once installed and FF is restarted, you can customize
that highlighted word right click menu any way you want - add stuff,
remove stuff, rearrange, etc. They also have a DictionarySearch add-
on to download that let's you tell it what dictionary to use
(Wikipedia for example) or you can tell it to offer you a list of
dictionaries to search. You won't even know the add-ons are there
unless you install them and manipulate them to do your bidding.

My favorite free downloadable FF add-on is Adblock Plus. My surfing
is once again almost pleasurable.

I wish there was a go get me some more coffee add-on.

There exists an 'add-on' coffee-maker that plugs into a USB port.
