Is there a way to search a directory, for say, all picture type files, while
still specifying the directory/subdirectories.

As soon as I make the selection for "type", I lose the option on "where" to
search.

Has anyone found a workaround for this ... of have I lost my mind!?

You are right and I tried that ... and it worked, but it's a large directory
that belongs to someone else and I'm trying to analyse what's contained in
all of the folders (want to do a breakdown), there are also a lot of gifs
and other files, so I want to tell it to look for all those files types in
that directory structure.

Any thoughts?

This finds all jpegs

*.jpg,*.jpeg

Yes keep adding
*.gif;*.jpeg;*.bmp;*.rle;*.jpg;*.psd;*.png;*.ico;*.cur;*.wmf;*.emf;*.anyotherbloodytypeyouwant

David's given you the "how" for file types. To search a particular
folder/subfolder structure, right click on the main folder and select
Search. Then file in your file types in the resulting search window.

So ... basically, it's a yes and no answer, in a manner of speaking.
What I did learn from you is that I can put them all in there at once, so I
thank you for that. I was only searching for one format at a time.

Sharon, thanks for the response.
When I tried what you suggest ... "right click the subfolder then select the
file type", it no longer only searches the folder I highlighted, unless I
choose all file types and type in the extension I'm looking for. It's wierd
.... or do you think I'm missing something?

Right click the folder and select Search should open search with the
selected folder in the "Look in" box. Search should already have been set
up with Advanced Options to always include subfolders in the search.

In the top box (2 boxes above the Look In box) it says "all or part of the
file name." That's where you should enter your search criteria.

Are you using the Standard or the Advanced search behavior? When you open
the search window, click on Change Preferences, Change files and folders
search behavior, then try using whichever of the two you not currently.
Depending on the mode that it is set to, you might find an option for
advanced search options towards the bottom of that left pane...
