I seemed to have lost part of my search function. When in windows explorer,
search function can not find known files that I can see within diferent
folders.
Maybe there is an option that I'm overlooking.

See if this helps Joe.

Go to Start
Search
All files and folder
All or part of the file name
Expand "More advanced options" and check next to the following three options:
(check) Search system folders
(check) Search hidden files folders
(check) Search subfolders

Thank you Bert. I guess I'm just used to Windows 2000. I guess I will have to
check the advanced option each time. Again, THANK YOU

Bert,
I just tryed it and the advanced functions went away. I did have to mark
"Advanced Options" again (each time).

Bert

Same experience here, although I am not sure it has always been like
that.

Bert,
I guess I am not explaining myself well. When I use Windows Explorer to look
for files, I sometimes use the "Search" option. I was looking for a
particular file and so I did a search. It came back as "Search is complete.
There are no results to display." I know it is there because I can see it. I
made the adjustment to the "Search Option" and set the "Advanced Options" to
the recommended settings.
I did find it with these options. I closed Windows Exlporer and went about
my business. I returned with another search idea and I had to open the search
options box again an set the advanced options like before. I'm useing
"Windows Classic" setting rather then the Windows XP settings. I just like it
better. Again, Thank you.

Joe
To have Advanced Options checked by default, run this script. Works
for both Classic and New. For Classic, Alt-O can be used as a toggle.

Set "Search" Advanced Options as Default (Line 151)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Set All Search Options to Active (Line 148)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Change Default Search Options

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer

Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value), Value Data: (0 = unselected, 1 =
selected).

Modify the following values, setting them to "1" to select the
parameter as a default or "0" as unselected. CaseSensitive,
IncludeSubFolders, SearchHidden, SearchSlowFiles, SearchSystemDirs.
Restart or logoff Windows for the change to take effect.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry and Joe,

I have *never* had to select these options more than once.

Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders

And I have never use Windows Classic. This may be the key.
