Mike.......

I have found that when I choose not to search from the
address bar I still get a search any how.I have gone into
IE and choose not to search from address bar and as soon
as I restart the computer it is back to no selection in
the searching area of the advanced tab.I have XP home and
all updates to the OS. How can I get it to not search from
the address bar. I would like to choose when my OS
searches for an address and when it doesn't.

You also need to make sure that the Auto Complete option is not enabled for
Web Addresses. It is in the Content Tab/Auto Complete Button.

If this does not resolve the problem, it's possible that you may have some
spyware that has hijacked your IE SEarch functions. Recommend the following
programs to search for and remove these.

AdAware

Spybot

Also, check the following website for more information on known spyware.

.Sorry but I'm back to xlm.overture so I guess that
wasn't it. Checked for spyware(none found )I do check alot
though so didn't think I'd find any but any idea is
helpful. Here is everything I've tried or set. I've set the
IE. 6 internet options to not search from address bar then
applied that and OK,then I've unchecked the box in
autocomplete for web addresses and checked for spyware.Any
idea if this xlm.overture is the microsoft default search
program or if it's a rouge program from something else on
my computer.Any more suggestions on what I should try next?

Mike

What is the exact web address that it takes you to when you try to search
from the address bar? I cannot find any info on this at all?

It looks like you gave me a name with a typo? It's called xml.overture not
xlm? It's part of the igetnet spyware. Go to the following website and click
on the uninstaller to get rid of it.
