I have noticed that from time to time when I try to search for files using
the windows search from the "my computer" icon that it is very slow,
sometimes taking several minutes to start, or fails to start at all. This
seems to happen naturally and NOT followingn a system failure.

I have tried the search in safe mode and it runs fine. I use Zone Alarm
Security Suite for virus detection and there are no viruses detected. Any
recommendations on how to solve this?

hy, tom

did you think of defragmenting you HD?
or, if your HD is full, it's naturally that you search
file engine is slow, as everything other should be?

Ivana,

I don't think that is it. It is the same on a drive that is only 4% full
(96% free space).

wich windows do you have?
is is JUST the search engine that is slow or?
so you have two HDs? What about your
RAM card? is is 124 MB, 256MB or higher? DDR or?

I have Windows XP Pro. It seems to be just the search engine. I have two HD
and 512 RAM. Not sure about DDR!

when did you install second HD?
when you installed it did you transfer Windows on
other HD or you left them on old one?

the second HD was Factory installed about 4 years ago. on upgrade to op sys
was XP Pro from XP Home about three years ago.

I may have found the problem. When I open Task Manager I see the CPU is at
100%. I noticed that a program called "dumprep.exe" was using 95%+ of the
CPU. I ended the program and all works fine. Any suggestions on how to stop
the dumprep.exe program? I have has problems with this interfering with
programs closing.
