searching for file contents with Vista is a nightmare

I understand Vista search is more powerful, but with XP I used to
navigate through windows explorer, find a folder name, right click and
hit search, then choose "a word or phrase in the file", and my
results would show up.

Now, looks like I have to do this:

1) make sure folder is indexed
2) make sure you hit "include contents" in advanced search options
3) make sure the file extension is in the list of accepted file types
for searching

WTF? How can I just tell Vista, search ALL f'ing files in this f'ing
directory for the following f'ing contents?

I'm livid, if you can't tell.

It works for me like you describe in your first paragraph, except you don't
have to right-click and select Search, just type what you're looking for in
the search box...

Vista search is more powerful that brute force directory by directory
file scanning with your eyes. If you are interested in reliably
finding things with search you cannot use the Vista tools. Download a
third party search tool like Agent Ransack, or as noted in another
reply, abandon the crappy Vista file manager for something with a real
search tool

Surely not what one would call user-friendly.
