I am in the process of changing my word processing program from Word Perfect
5.1 for DOS to a windows-based program. I have loaded all of my documents
from WP5.1 to a flash drive. When I try to use the Windows Search to search
the flash drive for text in the document, it will not find the text, even
though I am certain the text is there. If I search for the file name, it
will find them all, but not text within the document. Any suggestions on
what I can do?

Thanks

I would guess Word Perfect files have some special extension. (*.???) This
extension has to have an existing 'association' with some installed windows
app before search will look for text in the file. You can temporarily work
around the search problem by rightclicking one of the WP files, and 'open
with' NOTEPAD, (checking the 'always use this..." checkbox to form the
association)

Word Perfect, as does MS Word and most any other full up word processor,
does not store text in a cleartext format.

Try opening one of your documents in Notepad and you'll see.

So, searching for text is not going to work. You must use a program that is
able to view WP files as such.
