Searching customized Referrals database fields

I have added fields to my referrals database. For example, after "Full Name"
I created "specializes in". I have filled that in with things like "aviation
law" or "real estate". When I click on find and try to Look For all lawyers
who do "real estate" my search will only list a handful of all the contacts
that I've listed do real estate. Why?

Is your "referrals database" an Outlook contacts folder?

It was created in the "Contacts" section.

I'm not sure that answers my question, because Outlook doesn't have "sections" per se. Let me ask the question a different way:

-- Is this "database" an Outlook folder?
-- If so, is it a folder containing contacts?
-- If so, please tell us exactly how you created the fields.

Sorry Sue - I'm a little new at this posting thing. To answer your questions:
-- Is this "database" an Outlook folder? Yes.
-- If so, is it a folder containing contacts? Yes.
-- If so, please tell us exactly how you created the fields.
We right-clicked on the field headings, chose "field chooser", selected
"user-defined fields".

The problem is that after creating these fields, it doesn't appear as though
they are searchable. If I search for "real estate" it only lists 3 of 7
entries or something like that.

The procedure you followed is the correct one for creating field definitions in the folder (and that is the prerequisite for being able to search them.) How are you setting up the search?
