After rebuilding the re indexing i waited until Outlook told me it was
done
before i attempted my search. It is still not finding the entry in the
assistant field.
I have found that through the search field on the task bar it does find
it.
Odd thing though, even though it is in contacts, it is returning the
search
result in the category Communications, not contacts.
I then added a child's name of testtest in a contacts children field.
again
the search in the contact folder did not find it but the desktop search
did.
I am assuming that because the desktop search found it is is not an
indexing
problem, and that the search withing the contact folder for "all" items is
just a misnomer - that it really does not look in all the fields.

If you are using Instant Search, you must assure that Outlook has had a
chance to finish indexing your file. Examine your Indexing Status.

From the Today Screen i selected the contact item from the navigation
pane.
i then entered my term in the search field at the top of the contact
list.
I
even extended the list and reviewed the criteria available to add. the
search "all" contact items seem to be a bit misleading because i know
there
are far more items than the "criteria" list gives you to pick from.
is
there truly an "all" fields option somewhere?
:
Rather hard to say since you failed to convey your search method.
Seems
like
you might want to start with that.

i am using 2007. i am trying to use more of the pre-defined fields
instead
of making entries in the notes section. as an experiment i put the
name
heather in the assistant field. I tried a search and i cannot find
it.
i
followed the self help guide on MS and re indexed in the control
panel.
it
is still not finding it. am i doing something wrong, do i have a
bug,
or
is
it not going to find it?
