My system was running very slowly and the screens were paging in sections.
This lead me to look at the processes running in the Task Manager. There I
found "searchindexer.exe" taking up 135K of my 700K ram. Once I ended this
service (thinking is was malicious) the system returned to somewhat normal. I
have a P4 machine running XP. Does anyone know that this program is and do I
need it? Thank you.

Do you have Office 2007 Beta installed on your computer? If you run
Outlook 2007, you'll be asked if you want to install an update to
Windows Desktop Search. If you elect to install this update, you'll be
taken here:

Windows Desktop Search 3.0 Beta Engine Preview (KB917013)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...53-6e20-4cf7-8bfc-1cac7f35da49&displaylang=en

Once you install this program, the Windows Search Service,
searchindexer.exe, will be added to your system.

Look in Add/Remove programs for Windows Desktop Search. If you uninstall
it searchindexer.exe will be removed as well.

Good luck
