I have had my laptop for almost 3 months and was running fine until this
week. when i look at the task manager my cpu useage is at 100 percent and
almost all of it is the SearchIndexer.exe file. Which is slowing down my
internet usages and other things.. when i end the process my usage drops down
to a manageable level, but after a few minutes the SearchIndexer.exe comes
back on. I have found on the internet how to disable it, but will it cause
problems. I am to the point where I want to throw my laptop out the window,
because i am unable to do the things i would lik to do...Any suggestions out
there? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Stopping it has no real negative effects, certainly nothing that is even as
bad as you have now. It was one of the first things I stopped when I first
set up Vista.

I'm curious to get more information on what was causing this and whether
anything changed on the machine that might have triggered this.

Were you running iTunes at the time? - we have a known issue with an
interaction between the iTunes library file and the indexing service. Does
the process usage drop when you move the mouse or use the keyboard? - we
have code that will limit the service's CPU usage when we detect the user is
using the machine. If you open the Indexing Options Control Panel do you see
any error messages or other notable stuff?

But you certainly can disable the WSearch service which will stop indexing
from happening. You'll lose the fast searches for files and e-mails in
Windows and Outlook 2007 but otherwise the system will function normally.
