Search tool

During search for files or folders in my c drive, the
windo with the little search dog comes on without the
dog, the space to type in what it is that i am searching.
it comes completely blank. Please help retore this
 
When you get the 'search companion' bar showing
slide down to [x]Change preferences. Pick on
[x] Different character.

Explore around other preferences....might be some
others to fix.
