Anyone aware of a search tool that does a good job searching for files based
on text in the file?

The search built into Windows does not work for you?

I use it all the time.. I'm not sure what kind of file you need to search
for text in, but this will find text in Word or Excel files as well, which
is my main use.

Just go to My Computer and hit Search. There's something that says "A word
or phrase in the file:".

Powerdesk is a good one. It will also completely replace win explorer
if you want it to. Been using it quite awhile. Not positive there is
still a free version but it's worth the money if there isn't one. I
like the double-window concept they use too.

Shawn - For Word and Excel you'll be fine, but if you broaden your scope
you'll find it has problems searching within certain types of file:
