working with this grand and glorious XP Pro, I am having a
problem when I do a file search. Once the search is
complete (sic), XP will start the search over and continue
to do this until I move out of the search results window in
Windows Explorer.

I am using this forum because I can find nothing in the
Windows Help files (they are anything but that). I was
searching for a series of files I worked on the previous
week (various extensions) and every time I tried to move
through the list of found files, the search would start
over. Shoot, it even searches when I'm not even touching
the machine. Seems to cycle through every couple of minutes.

Is this normal? Can this be shut off? Can Macro$carf ever
make a GOOD OS?

Some bugaboos in XP. Autoplay doesn't rememeber the
settings for removeable drives so I am constantly asked
what I want to do with the files on my zip or USB hard drive.

There can only be two types of users, Administrators and
Users, nothing in between (I miss my 2000).

XP is fine. XP search is .... not so good. It's normal for XP's search to
restart as you describe. I've been using Agent Ransack as my search
tool instead (www.agentransack.com).
