Search permissions problem

I am the sole member of Administrators on a new standalone W2KPro
system.

All drives/folder permissions are set to "Everyone."

When I select 'Search' from within Windows Explorer to search for
files
or text within, I get the error message "There was a problem sending

the command to the program."

When I try to search from within PowerDesk (Win Explorer
replacement)
I get a more explicit message "Access to the specified device, path,
or file
is denied."

Changing permissions to me specifically as the sole member of
Administrators
produces no change.

Any help will be appreciated.

Solved:

ZoneAlarm Pro had not been given permission for Win Explorer and
Powerdesk to have "Access" to "Internet."

Why this is required is a bit beyond my ken.

The point of ZoneAlarm is to prevent processes from accessing the Internet
and Internet entities from accessing your machine unless they have been
authorized. This prevents rogue programs from transmitting your financial
data and passwords to the bad guys. With ZA running, you have to
authorize each program, either permanently or on a single-use basis.
Programs can be permanently authorized, permanently denied, or required to
ask permission each time (the default). This greatly improves the
security of your system.

Gary,

Thanks for your interest.

To clarify:
what I don't understand here is more specifically this:

Why those local programs should need ZoneAlarm's permission to access
the Internet in order to search my local drives. ZoneAlarm permissions
have two levels: one is Access/Trusted + Access/Internet, the other is
Server/Trusted + Server Internet.

I had 'Trusted' OK'd for both, and NOT Ok'd for Internet.

i.e., why this makes sense in terms of the specific program/system
design/requirements of ZoneAlarm and it's relationship to the local
access of those programs.

In my experience, programs such as Windows Explorer will trigger the
request for permission only when they are attempting to access something
on the Internet. For example, go to your Favorites folder and
double-click any of the links there. Explorer will attempt to access the
link target, a request will be triggered, and if it's allowed, the page
will be displayed in Explorer's right-side panel. Clicking on an entry in
Network Neighborhood has the same effect. I've never seen a request for
permission when accessing local files, and I would think that's not even
possible. Zone Alarm gets control by trapping the IP message, which is
not used when accessing a local file.
