I have to deal with several gb's of data from a PC under investigation. This
is mostly .pst files which have been zipped, and many of the emails are
one-liners attaching other emails.

I need to be able to search for specific text within this heap of data. What
are the options in this situation?

I've had a look at the website. It doesn't seem to be thorough enough for
our purposes. It looks as if it does the same searching you can do with
Outlook and OE, but much quicker.

The situation we have is of emails attached to other emails, and often
zipped archives of messages, either free-standing as files or attached to
emails.

I realised yr situation; but if you wish to examine files as they are, you
are going to need a third party tool that can not only open a zip file but
read a pst, and perform a search
I somehow think that you are going to have to unzip first.
Is this anything to do with the new regs imposed on ISP's with regards
email?
If so you may wish to contact the developer, there must be an angle there?

I think we will have to go the route of a third-party searching tool. I
realise I didn't know about any of them, though.
