I am trying to fix a window xp home addition machine with IE 6.0. The search
function brings up a blank screen as well as the search function in windows
explorer. I am unable to access Hotmail or any site that requires a password.
When I tried to post a question here from that machine, I was unable to
access Net Password. I have spybot and antivir running on the machine. I am
hoping not to reinstall XP but am almost at wits end. Any ideas?

Hi Bob :-)

You most likely have a hijacker or malware on your system causing the
problem, which the programs you have run are unable to detect. Do the
following to fully clean your system:

Be sure to run CWShredder here

and AdAware and Spybot.
Download the newest version of HiJackThis here:

and SpyBot Search & Destroy

Also visit these two sites to test for parasites and help basic cleaning:

and

Basically, throw everything here at your "infection".

And be sure to use the HijackThis. Please DO NOT post your log to this
