attempting to search for a file using part of a sentence
in the file using the Search function in Win XP but it is
not finding the file i used to beable to do this in
windows 2000

What's the file extension? Follow this advice and create a PersistentHandler for that filetype. Use {5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}, if and only if it is a plain-text file. For other HTML based files, the search filter will vary.

Verify the structure is correct in your registry. And reboot the system once.
