When you click Start>Search>All files and folders, there is a drop-down list
of places to look in. Two of the items on that list are:

Local Hard Drives (C:) and

Local Disk (C:)

What is the difference between these two items?

Local Hard Drives (C:) would include EVERY hard drive on your machine. D:, E:,
F:, etc..

Could I assume that if there were more than 1 local hard drive the item
would appear as:
Local Hard Drives (C: D: E: etc)?

Thank you Husky.

Another question, if I may: my computer has what Dell calls a "48X CD-RW/DVD
Combo Drive." Should that qualify as a hard drive D?

do you need a telephone line to use a laptop?

No. You can, of course, run any stand-alone application (Word, Excel, etc.)
without any internet connection.

But if you want to use the internet connection, you need a modem and
telephone line, dsl connection, cable connection (or wireless connection, if
you are somewhere where there's a wi-fi signal available).
