Have XP SP3

I am able to Search fine (Start/Search - then search for files/folders).
"Search" finds what I am looking for & stops (with the correct number of
found entries),
but I can not dbl click and must use the Ctrl/alt/delete - as task is not
responding.

I have tried re-installing Srchasst.inf
And tried a Hot fix - Q319949 - but my system is not compatible.

Is there a fix or is my PC infected?
Last nites Eset (my anti-virus) scan was fine/clean.

Any fixes?

(I am not seeing any other issues with my PC

Try to scan for malware and run through these cleaning steps:
- Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit .

HTH,

nass

I can run Searches with NO problems in safe mode - which is why I thought I
have an infection.

Other than my Eset Smart Security (no problems found), tried
Eset's on line scanner;
bit Defenders online scanner,
Rogue Remover,
AVG Anti-root killer, &
Ad-aware.
All clean.

Malware Bytes and Threat fire each found something and removed the problems.
then cleared out System Restore, Reboot and tried a Search again - still can
not with it Not Responding.

I don't use the Search often - so no idea if when I became infected or when
it stopped working.
So I had no problem clearing System Restore.

I'll try sfc /Scannow.
Should I repair Windows? Whats the process?
will I have to re-install the window Updates?
thx

Tried - sfc /Scannow.
No change.

So last resort is a Windows Repair?

Note: tried a search via Start/Explorer - same problem.
Can not close the window- have to Ctrl/Alt/delete- end Task.
