Is there a program that will search for specific words or phrases within MS
Word documents or text files.

What's wrong with the Windows search (Winkey + F)? It does that very
thing.

Both Copernic Desktop Search and the Google Desktop Search will do this, and
much more, such as (in the case of Copernice) indexing other Office
documents, emails, pictures, PDFs, web cache, music, favorites/bookmarks,
browser history, etc.)

My personal preference is for Copernic, you may want to look at both to make
up your mind.
