Search for files

Hoping someone can help me out. When I click on the
start button in the bottom left corner of the the screen
a menu pops up. When I then click on seach (to sseach
for files or media on my had drive) to get nothing. The
hourglass will come up, stay there and then just go
away. The search worked until recently and now nothing.
Not sure if I deleted something my mistake?
