For some time I have an annoying problem. "Someting" infected my PC - the
result is that the default start page of IE is some search tool. But - it is
not at some specific web addres, but it is on my PC instead of "blank" page!

I used CWShredder 1.56.2., which removes this page. But effect is temporary,
it did not remove the cause of the problem which is obviously still present
on my PC - "Search for.." page appeares over and over.

If you don't have the solution, tell me where to find a person who produced
this virus/troyan. ;)

Sometimes with the stubborn rogue programs such as this one your only
option is to get brutal. My advice would be to download/install and run
the following (of course make sure they are up to date.)
Lavasoft Adaware 6.1 with latest reference files
Spybot Search & Destroy with latest updates
CWShredder - latest build
SpyBlaster with latest updates
The first three are spyware removers and the last one is a spyware
shield, it works well to prevent many programs from re-entering the system.
Goodluck,
sh4d03
P.S. goodluck with the whereabouts of the people who created the
spyware, I think there are many people who would like to know that.

CWShredder is now at version 1.57 due to new variant of the malware.
You may still be infected.

Have you told your browser to reset your default page to something you
like?

Download and update these spyware scanners,

Ad-Aware: www.lavasoft.com

Spybot S&D: www.safer-networking.org

I have had good results with Ad-Aware for removing adware programs
that edit your default page (how in the hell can Microsoft let them do
this ???). You do need to reset it back to what you want.
Occasionally I have seen adware corrupt IE and then it requires a
reinstall.

MS doesn't LET them do that, they have just found ways to do it.

Yes, it was not possible despite the fact I'm "Administrator".

Anyway, finaly I solved it, I will post details in another thread... ;) I
hope it will help to somebody else.

Thanks, I needed to scan machine with all of these - each of them cleared
"something". But one more thing for people with the same problem: I needed
to re-install IE and then to repeat scaning!

Now I played little bit browsing, restartde machine... so far all is OK ;)

"Opera" browser is not affected with so many problem as IE. It is nice, but
it doesn't work with some pages...

Please don't do that either. Those who have been following this thread
will now have to guess at what the new thread will be and may not find
your answer.
